‘Let me tell you a secret’ – Ex-Rangers ace backs club to land £4.5m swoop this summer

Former Rangers defender Dorian Goian has backed his old club to make a permanent move for Ianis Hagi this summer.

The 21-year-old playmaker joined Steven Gerrard’s men on a temporary deal  in January from Belgian side Genk, and the Gers have an option-to-buy clause believed to be around £4.5 million written into his contract.

The Romanian has hit three goals and two assists since arriving in Glasgow, and his compatriot Goian believes that Rangers have more than enough financial clout to get a deal over the line for him, if they decide he is worth the outlay.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “I know Rangers and their financial potential very well.

“I can tell you if they are satisfied with him – and I think they are – it certainly won’t be a problem for them to pay the money to Genk to sign Ianis.

“Let me tell you a secret about Rangers’ financial muscle. When they were put into the fourth tier in Scottish football they not only wanted me to stay, but they offered me the same money I was on in the top league.

Is Hagi worth £4.5 million?
From what we’ve seen of the youngster, you would be inclined to say yes.
Obviously he has his three goals and two assists, but he has also impressed with his all-round gameplay too.
So far, he has averaged 3.32 accurate crosses per match, 0.69 more than Ryan Kent, as per Wyscout, as well completing 58.1% of his attempted dribbles, 4% more than the Englishman.
Hagi also registered more shots and has a higher xG than last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year.
Bearing in mind how much the Gers were willing to pay for Kent in the summer, £4.5 million looks like a decent investment.
