Confirmed – Rangers player tests positive for Coronavirus
Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie has tested positive for Coronavirus, according to his current loan side Portsmouth.
The League One club confirmed the news via their official website on Tuesday evening.
The 22-year-old, who has spent the entirety of this campaign at Fratton Park, is understood to be displaying mild symptoms at the most after contracting the illness.
An excerpt from Pompey’s statement reads: “Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Ross McCrorie has tested positive for coronavirus.
“Previous tests showed that four other members of the squad – James Bolton, Andy Cannon, Haji Mnoga and Sean Raggett – had also contracted the virus.
“All five players displayed mild or no symptoms, but are self-isolating in accordance with government guidelines.”
What does this mean?
First and foremost, we would like to wish Ross all the best in his recovery, and hopefully the nature of his symptoms means that he has contracted a mild strain of the virus which should pass relatively quickly.
More than anything, however, this just serves to reiterate how careful we all must be.
The 22-year-old is a professional athlete in peak physical fitness and he has still caught Covid-19, reiterating once again that this illness does not discriminate.
It is vitally important that we all follow self-distancing protocol and the latest advice from the government in an attempt to arrest the spread of the virus.
The fact that five Portsmouth players have already tested positive illustrates just how easily it can be transmitted, and the most simple, effective way that we can prevent that from happening is to stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary to do otherwise.
