‘Too close to call’ – Andy Gray makes major Rangers claim amid ongoing Coronavirus pandemic
Andy Gray has claimed that Celtic must not be handed the Scottish Premiership title because the race between Neil Lennon’s side and Rangers is “too close to call”.
The Hoops are currently 13 points clear at the top of the table, but Steven Gerrard’s men have game in hand and still have two Old Firm derbies left to play this season.
And Gray does not believe that the campaign is as much of a forgone conclusion as the gap at the top would initially suggest.
Speaking on the Keys and Gray Show, he said: “No Championship that’s unfinished should be declared finished.
“In Scotland, it’s even closer [compared to England].
“It’s close and it’s not close as it might be or should be.
“But it’s too close to call still [in regards to handing out the title].”
Does Gray have a point here?
It’s refreshing to see a pundit finally acknowledge that this title race isn’t over.
Of course, on paper, Celtic have the advantage, and a sizeable one at that.
But when we look closer you can see that this is by no means a foregone conclusion.
The gap is 13 points, but with the two Old Firms we have left and that crucial game in hand, it could actually as narrow as four points.
Factor in one more Celtic defeat and a draw, and the Gers hold the advantage again.
Is it unlikely? Probably, yes.
Is it unthinkable? Stranger things have definitely happened.
One thing is for certain, however, Rangers cannot conceded the title to Celtic without a fight, as John Hartson would like them to.
