Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce claims Gerrard faces ‘difficult’ decision on in-form Rangers ace
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Steven Gerrard faces a “difficult” decision on whether or not to give Jamie Murphy another chance at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender claimed that there was a big difference in quality between playing for League One Burton Albion, where he is currently on loan, and playing for his parent club.
The 30-year-old has been in impressive form for the Brewers since making the move south in January, and has registered seven goals and two assists in 10 League One outings.
But Bruce is sceptical about whether or not Murphy could replicate that kind of form at Ibrox.
“It’s a difficult one, isn’t it?”, he told Ibrox News.
“No offence to Burton but playing for Burton and playing for Glasgow Rangers is a bit different.
“Only Steven knows the kind of qualities that Murphy can bring. He’s been a decent player, but it depends on how he’s been since his injury, and can he reach the levels where Rangers need to get to compete with Celtic.
“It’s one where he’ll have to look at it and see what happens.”
Murphy has struggled for game time with the Gers of late after sustaining a knee ligament injury in August 2018.
Prior to moving to Burton, the wide man had registered just two appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side all season.
