‘I will not accept whinging’ – Alan Brazil delivers verdict on how to end Rangers season

Alan Brazil has insisted that the Scottish Premiership season must be completed, despite Celtic holding a considerable lead over Rangers at the top of the table.

The Hoops are currently 13 points ahead of Steven Gerrard’s men, with little certainty over if or when the campaign will reach its conclusion amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

And while Brazil acknowledges that playing the remaining fixtures would lead to a hectic schedule, he believes that it is a must to do so.

Writing in a column for the Sunday Post, he said: “Players’ welfare is important but I will not accept whinging about a hectic schedule from people earning £150,000 a week.

“Yes, there will be pressure on players and managers. But it’s a type of pressure they should relish.

“We should complete this season when it is safe to do so and then worry about the future.

“I think it’s the way the majority of fans would want things to happen.”

Is Brazil correct here?

Definitely, yes.

At this stage, it’s not even really about having an opportunity to catch Celtic at the top of the table.

The priority must be to preserve the integrity of the Scottish game, and the only way that can properly be done is by ensuring that this season is finished.

In all likelihood, we’re not going to see any matches for a long time to come, and the reality is that it could be late summer at the earliest before we can begin to get things back on track.

But that doesn’t mean that we should just abandon this season and prioritise next year.

Whether it be scrapping cup competitions or going up to two matches a week, there are measures that can be taken to make sure that we catch up on the time that we are losing now, and that has to be preferable to any of the alternatives that are on the table.
