‘Absolutely relentless’ – Kenny Miller issus stinging verdict on Rangers ‘capitulation’
Rangers must learn how to “break the mould” if they are to lift any silverware under Steven Gerrard, according to Ibrox hero Kenny Miller.
The Gers find themselves 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race after enduring a poor run of form in the aftermath of the winter break, and were also beaten in the Scottish League Cup final by their bitter rivals earlier this season.
And Miller believes that Gerrard’s men must find a way to snap themselves out of their ongoing slump.
As quoted by the Daily Record, he said: “It pains you to say it as a Rangers fan and an ex-Rangers player but Celtic are absolutely relentless and that’s something we had over that spell.
“This Rangers team simply has to break the mould and win a trophy
“That’s what good teams do and the current Rangers team will also have it levelled against them that come crunch time they haven’t stood up to the pressure – and to be fair, they didn’t even get to crunch time.
“It was a capitulation from the word ‘go’ after coming back from the winter break. I’m sure Steven is scratching his head as well. His team looked like potential champions for the first six months of the season.”
Does Miller have a point here?
Of course he does, yes.
The Gers have fallen into a pattern of coming up short against Celtic, and at the moment are very much playing catch up with their neighbours.
The big criticism levelled at Gerrard is that he has failed to bring silverware to Ibrox, despite some notable progress on the field.
In some respects, you can’t blame him too heavily for the lack of trophies.
Winning a league title in two seasons was always going to a mammoth task, and in the League Cup final earlier this term, we were much the better side.
With 16 shots to Celtic’s five, and seven on target to the Hoops’ one, there was an obvious difference in quality, but when it came down to it, Neil Lennon’s side found a way to win.
If were are to ever break Celtic’s dominance in the domestic game, we have to find a way to grind out results like that too.
