Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce raves about major transfer update on Rangers talent
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Borna Barisic committing his future to Rangers will be just what Steven Gerrard wants to hear from the player.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Croatian’s willingness to stay in Glasgow is a sign of how keen the Gers are to topple Celtic at the summit of the Scottish Premiership table.
Earlier in the week, the 27-year-old’s agent suggested that the defender will still be a Rangers player next season, despite making claims to the contrary earlier in the season.
And Bruce believes that the update can only be a positive thing for the Gers.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Rangers are a big club at the end of the day, so I can understand why you wouldn’t want to leave when you’re there, because it’s a great club to play for with a great fanbase, and there’s a challenge there to go and try and take over Celtic.
“When you’ve got players coming out and saying they want to stay and kick on and try and win the title, it’s only beneficial.
“I’m sure they’re the kind of words that the manager would want to hear from his players, rather than the opposite.”
Barisic has been a fixture of Steven Gerrard’s first team picture this season, registering 38 appearances in all competition.
The full-back has managed two goals and 14 assists during that spell.
