Athletic journo: Rangers could land cut-price summer deal for 25y/o
Rangers could sign Florian Kamberi for a heavily reduced fee in the summer, according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.
The 25-year-old striker arrived on loan at Ibrox from Hibernian in January, but has no option to buy clause written into his contract in Glasgow.
A report from Football Insider made earlier in the week suggested that the Gers have already made contact over a potential swoop for the forward.
But Campbell believes that any permanent move for the player would be heavily affected by the loss of revenue caused by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, which has led to the suspension of all football across Scotland.
Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “The money this pandemic will cost the club too won’t be helpful but there will be investment again.
“How much would you pay for him? As I said earlier this week Hibs were looking for £2m not long ago but that will have to drop by a large, large amount you’d imagine.”
Should the Gers sign Kamberi?
We’re in a weird situation whereby the club are going to have to make major transfer decisions like this without much physical evidence to support their decision.
With no football on the horizon for the foreseeable future, the chances of Kamberi playing for the Gers again before his loan deal is due to expire look slim.
But, from what we’ve seen so far, there is definitely a fair bit to get excited about.
So far he has averaged 5.81 successful dribbles, 3.41 aerial duels won, and 66.3 total successful actions per game this season, as per Wyscout.
As a point of reference, Jermain Defoe has averaged 4.23 successful dribbles this season, as well as 1.8 aerial duels won and 46.11 successful actions, as per Wyscout.
With that in mind, Kamberi would surely be a decent signing, even if it was just to fulfil a squad role in support of Alfredo Morelos.
If the price is low, even better.
