Confirmed: Rangers make key decision on several players amid Coronavirus upheaval

Rangers have taken the decision to allow their foreign players to return to their home countries during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

All matches in Scotland have been postponed in an effort to help prevent the spread of Covid-19, with the government advocating a policy of social distancing in an attempt slow its transmission.

For many that essentially means a period of self-isolation, but the Gers are allowing players the opportunity to fly home if they wish to spend the coming weeks with their families.

As quoted by FourFourTwo, the club released a statement reading: “Players from out-with the UK have been allowed to return home but are on strict programming including diet recording.

“Some players have decided not to return home and have remained in Glasgow.

“The club’s management are in daily dialogue with each player and are monitoring the ongoing situation regarding the virus.

“The manager will continue to balance his time between Glasgow and home during this period of uncertainty.”

Is this the right decision from the club?

You can certainly understand the logic behind it.

Of course, in an ideal world, none of us would be travelling anywhere as we look to slow the spread of the virus as much as possible.

But in this instance, with some players stranded miles away from their families and potentially facing weeks on their own, it makes sense to at least give them the option to make a one time trip, provided they then follow the guidelines on isolation in whichever country they return to.

As long as rules are followed, and fitness regimes are maintained, then this seems okay.
