‘Awful’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce reacts to mooted Rangers exit

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has admitted that Steven Gerrard faces an “awful decision” on whether or not to let Andy Halliday leave Rangers this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the manager will have to make a tough call on the 28-year-old, but claimed that ultimately he is the only man who can make it.

The versatile midfielder was included in a list of six Rangers players who may have played their last game for the club by The Scottish Sun earlier in the week.

And Bruce believes that there is a strong possibility that he will leave the club that he has supported since he was a boy.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Andy Halliday, he’s a Rangers lad, isn’t he? It’s a difficult one for the manager, because you want them kind of players around you, but ultimately Steven is getting judged for winning the league up there, winning trophies.

“If he isn’t doing that and he’s only got a certain amount of time to do it, unfortunately managers have to make big decisions. He’ll be the only one to answer which players he wants to keep and which ones he wants to show the door.

“That’s what managers are paid for, to make those difficult decisions. To let a player like Andy Halliday go, that’s an awful decision to have to make.”

Halliday has struggled for game time so far this season, making just 12 appearances.

He has registered just one assist across those outings.
