Agent of Rangers star performs major transfer U-turn amid reported interest

Borna Barisic’s agent has performed a U-turn on his client’s future at Rangers.

Speaking earlier in the season, Ives Cakarun claimed that the Gers “would not be able to keep” the Croatian after the season he has had, despite the full-back putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal in January.

Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport reported on Tuesday that Napoli are keen to sign the player at the end of the current campaign.

But in the wake of that interest, Cakarun has seemingly changed his stance on the left-back’s plans.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “Napoli? Borna is concentrated only on the path with Rangers until next summer.”

What does this mean?

If we take things at face value, you would like to think that Barisic will not be leaving Glasgow for at least another season, rather than packing his bags in the summer, as many of us feared he might.

The Croatian has looked like a different player this season, averaging a higher total action success rate, a 5.1% cross accuracy rate increase, and a higher percentage of ball recoveries in his own half this term than he did last season, as per Wyscout.

He has established himself as a key player for the Gers this term, and must now be one of the first names on Steven Gerrard’s team sheet every weekend.

Of course, this could just be idle chat from an agent trying to court interest in his player by playing hard to get, but let’s hope that isn’t the case.

Losing Borna would be a seismic blow.
