Report – Rangers ‘quietly confident’ of completing deal for English striker
Rangers are “quietly confident” of sealing a deal for teenage Blackpool striker Anthony Weston, according to The Scottish Sun.
The 16-year-old made his senior debut for the League One side back in December during an FA Cup clash with Maidstone.
It is understood that the youngster is attracting attention from a host of English clubs, with Southampton, Everton, and Leeds United all mooted as potential destinations.
A £250,000 switch to Southampton has already fallen through once, with the report stating that a move to Everton seems more likely to succeed.
But the article also suggests that Steven Gerrard is “quietly confident” of the Gers wrapping up a deal for the promising Scouser.
Would this be a good deal for Rangers?
If we’re being completely honest, it’s difficult to tell.
Weston has only got one senior appearance to his name, and that constituted little more than a cameo at the end of an FA Cup tie in December.
What you would say, however, is that any 16-year-old who is making first team appearances and attracting attention from a host of Premier League sides is likely to have a boatload of potential.
According to manager Simon Grayson, the starlet has a good attitude, good movement, and a boundless amount of energy.
Those are certainly traits that bode well for a successful career in the professional game.
The Gers will face a battle to land him, of course, but his price tag shouldn’t be too excessive, and with Gerrard at the helm, the young Scouser could find it difficult to resist a move to Ibrox.
