‘I feel for him’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce admits sympathy for Rangers ace after confirmed blow

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has revealed that he feels sorry for injury-hit Rangers striker Jermain Defoe.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender claimed that the veteran hitman will be gutted to have missed so much game time for Steven Gerrard’s men this term.

The 37-year-old is set to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with a calf injury, according to his manager, and will miss out on this weekend’s Old Firm clash against Celtic.

And Bruce has expressed his sympathy for the forward.

“It’s been a really frustrating season for him,” he told Ibrox News.

“He’s obviously picked up injuries at bad times, and it’s frustrating, especially as you get older. All you want to be doing is playing games.

“I feel for him because he keeps picking up injuries.

“Obviously it’s a big blow for Rangers as well. I’m sure Steven would have liked to have had Jermain available more than he has been.

“Fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery.”

Defoe has struggled to maintain his fitness of late, and has played just 48 minutes in all competitions for the Gers since the beginning of February.

So far this term he has registered 17 goals in 32 outings for the Gers across all competitions, averaging one strike every 82 minutes.
