‘Scandalous’ – Kenny Dalglish savages Rangers talent who started v Ross County
Sir Kenny Dalglish has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos’ behaviour last week was “scandalous”.
The 23-year-old missed out on the Gers’ Scottish Cup defeat to Hearts last weekend after being handed an internal ban for failing to return from a personal leave of absence on time.
And Dalglish has suggested that the South American’s actions show a lack of respect.
Writing in a column for the Sunday Post, he said: “The Colombian striker asked his manager for a few days off on compassionate leave, and that was granted to allow him to go back home to visit his mother.
“Every manager has been there with that kind of request. Steven had to allow the player to return home. If he hadn’t, who knows what kind of reaction there would been.
“But for the player to have then returned late back to Glasgow was very poor. In fact, it was scandalous.
“Players will let you down, unfortunately. For Morelos to do that to Steven and the club was out of order.”
Is Dalglish right about Morelos?
Look, we all know that Morelos screwed up.
Given the amount of scrutiny he attracts at the best of times, pulling a stunt like this was never going to go down well, especially amongst neutrals who are seemingly convinced that he is a disruptive presence at Ibrox.
But that being said, it’s difficult to make too much of a concrete judgement without all the details at hand.
The reality is that we don’t know Morelos’ reasons for returning to Glasgow late, and without that information, we cannot be too harsh on him.
Right now, all we can do is acknowledge the fact that he issued a sincere apology, and hope that he can recapture the electric form that he showed in the first half of the season.
