Report – Rangers set to pocket major seven-figure windfall
Rangers could stand to land a major windfall from Billy Gilmour’s first team breakthrough at Chelsea, according to the Sunday Post.
The Gers lost the teenage talent back in 2017, when he left Glasgow to move to Stamford Bridge.
The Light Blues were given £2 million in compensation at the time, but as well as a further £250,000 when Gilmour made his first team debut in London last season.
But the riches could keep on coming at Ibrox.
The report states that the Gers will receive the same amount again when Gilmour reaches 10 starts for Chelsea, and could pocket another £1 million from two unspecified long term targets written into the player’s deal.
It is also understood that the Glaswegian club will receive 15% of any future transfer fee that Chelsea receive for the youngster.
How good could this be for Rangers?
Losing Gilmour in the first place was a hammer blow.
It was always blatantly obvious that the lad had potential in abundance, and after his starring role in Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Liverpool last week, it would appear that he is beginning to realise that promise down in London.
Gilmour drew praise from across the board for his display, including glowing reports from Gary Lineker, Ian Wright, and Alan Shearer.
Now, obviously it’s important not to get carried away after just one game, but if Gilmour continues on the trajectory that he looks to have laid out for himself at Stanford Bridge, then there is no reason to believe that he won’t go on to establish himself as a first team regular.
Perhaps the most astute clause in his deal, however, is that 15% sell-on fee that the Gers could receive further down the line.
Already, the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are being touted for potential swoops, as per El Desmarque, and 15% of whatever transfer fee he would command from that kind of move would be a very handsome bonus indeed.
