Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce makes major exit claim about Rangers ace who started on Sunday

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has suggested that Alfred Morelos’ off-field antics could prevent clubs from making a move for the Rangers striker in the summer transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Colombian’s recent slump in form, coupled with last week’s disciplinary controversy, could dissuade many sides from actively pursuing him.

Morelos missed out on last weekend’s Scottish Cup defeat against Hearts after failing to report back to Ibrox on time following a personal leave of absence.

He has also hit just one goal since returning from the winter break, and Bruce is convinced that he will have put off many suitors in recent weeks.

“If you’d asked me a few months ago, when everything was going well and everything was rosy, I’d have said there were probably a list of a few teams looking at him and thinking he could be a good option because everyone wants a goalscorer, don’t they?”, he told Ibrox News.

“But at the minute, I’m looking at it and if I was a manager or an owner I’d be going ‘do we really want somebody like this?’.

“Obviously we know what he can provide on the pitch, but do you really want to sign someone who’s going to bring this baggage with them? At the minute there are some many things that go on around him where you think, do we really want that?

“He might upset the applecart, whatever club he goes to. It’s a risk for anybody.”

Rangers

It wasn’t too long ago that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan were being linked with Morelos, as per Football Insider, but right now, he looks like a completely different player to the one that set the Scottish game alight prior to the winter break.

On just two occasions since January has he managed to have more than two shots on target, as per Wyscout, despite the fact that his season’s average stands at 4.29 per game.

Something’s not right, and unfortunately Morelos is showing no signs of getting any better anytime soon after yet another lacklustre display against Ross County on Sunday.
