Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce issues verdict on Gerrard future at Rangers after latest development

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has backed Rangers manager Steven Gerrard to stay at the club despite the Gers’ current slump in form.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the manager’s tenacity means that he is unlikely to turn his back on the Glaswegian giants.

Rangers dropped points for the fifth time since the end of the winter break with a 1-0 defeat to Hamilton on Wednesday night, and were also dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Hearts last weekend.

That result prompted the boss to claim that he needed time to consider his future at Ibrox, but Bruce is sure that he won’t be going anywhere.

“From the outside looking in, if I was a betting man, he’s never shirked a challenge in his life,” he told Ibrox News.

“I think he’ll roll his sleeves up, he’ll try and his this challenge head on. It will be hurting him because it’s the first time in his managerial career when it’s gotten a little bit bumpy for him, and it’s a tough patch.

“If you’re asking me what I think Steven Gerrard’s going to do, I’ve got no doubt that he’ll probably roll the sleeves up, get stuck in, and try and sort the issues out, whatever they are.”

Things have become somewhat fraught at Rangers in recent weeks, with the midweek capitulation against Hamilton leaving the club 13 points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the title race.

Chances of securing any silverware this season now look slim at best, with the Gers resting almost all of their hopes on an unlikely run in the Europa League, where they will face Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16.

In other Rangers news, Trevor Sinclair claims Gers will offload ‘lively’ Ibrox talent this summer.
