‘If you don’t like it… leave’ – Derek Ferguson makes Rangers summer exit claim

Several Rangers players are already considering leaving the club in the summer, according to Derek Ferguson.

The Gers are enduring a poor run of form, and have slipped to 13 points behind Celtic at the summit of the Scottish Premiership.

And the ex-Ibrox hero believes that the current slump can be attributed to the lack of a winning mentality amongst certain members of Steven Gerrard’s squad.

Speaking on Open Goal’s Right on the Coupon podcast, he said: “Have Rangers got talented players? I think so.

“Have they got strong individuals? Mentally strong? No. I think they’re pretty weak and they’ve shown that.

“It’s as if, watching games, already they’re thinking about the end of the season. ‘Can I get myself out of this situation, go to another club where there’s not that pressure?’.

Does Ferguson have a point here?
You would certainly hope not, but the reality is that the only people who truly know what’s going on behind the scenes at Rangers are the players and the coaching staff.
The reality of this post-New Year slump is that form and self-belief have taken a nosedive.
Whether that is because of a poor mental attitude is difficult to say, although there have been some worrying signs that it could be the case.
Both James Tavernier and Ryan Kent have made allusions to a lack of mental fortitude amongst their colleagues, as per The Athletic, and it’s not a massive leap to then assume that such feelings could translate into a desire to leave the club in the summer.
Obviously, names have not been named, and there’s probably no way of proving this one way or the other, but Ferguson might well have a point.
