Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce slams Rangers star who is giving Gerrard ‘major headache’

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos will be giving manager Steven Gerrard a “major headache” with his current behaviour.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the ex-Kilmarnock man suggested that the 23-year-old’s off-field antics could be construed as disrespectful to his boss and his teammates.

The Colombia international returned from a personal leave of absence 24 hours late last week, prompting internal disciplinary action that saw him omitted from the Gers’ match day squad for the Scottish Cup defeat to Hearts on Saturday evening.

And while he was reinstated to the starting XI for the Scottish Premiership clash against Hamilton in midweek, Bruce is of the opinion that Gerrard will still be at a loss as to how he should deal with the striker.

“I think it’s a difficult one because one thing about Morelos, forget all the off-field activities and all the rest of it, he’s their biggest goal threat, isn’t he?”, he told Ibrox News.

“When you take that out of the team, it’s a detriment to the team, so you have that major headache to worry about.

“However, as a manager, you can’t allow people to continuously take the mick. If he’s coming back from trips abroad, when he’s been given compassionate leave, and he comes back 24 hours late, that is taking the mick out of the manager, and your teammates, and the club.”

Morelos has struggled to recapture his stunning early season form since returning from the Gers’ midseason winter break, and has found the back of the net just once since January.

The South American issued an apology to both his teammates and supporters earlier in the week following his disciplinary action.
