‘Holy Moly’ – Ally McCoist makes major Gerrard exit claim after Rangers ‘implosion’
Ally McCoist has spoken out about his disbelief at the manner in which Rangers have imploded since returning from their midseason winter break.
The Gers lost again in midweek, this time to lowly Hamilton, to leave them 13 points behind Celtic at the summit of the Scottish Premiership table.
But while the ex-Ibrox boss admitted to being stunned by the recent collapse, he has claimed that current manager Steven Gerrard will not be going anywhere.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said; “Holy moly guacamole.
“The only word you can use is implosion, there has been an implosion.
“Clearly they are a team that looks completely and utterly bereft of any confidence which I find unbelievable when you have come home with a game in hand and a chance to go top of the league
“I don’t think he [Gerrard] will walk away, I genuinely don’t think he will.”
Is McCoist right to be shocked?
Let’s be honest here, any Rangers fan who says they have not been left stunned by just how disastrous the past few weeks have been is a barefaced liar.
The only silver lining during this torrid spell has been our impressive form in the Europa League, but even then, it has been heavily marred by just how poor the Gers have been domestically.
Wednesday night’s defeat against Hamilton was perhaps the best illustration yet of how frustrating things have become at Ibrox.
Gerrard’s men had 31 shots and 69% possession, but it still wasn’t enough to break down a side who are currently second off bottom.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Gers also conceded one of the most tragicomic goals you are likely to see this season thanks to a howler from Connor Goldson, as examined in detail by Ibrox News itself.
Contrast that performance with the 3-1 win over the Accies back in November, when the Gers needed 11 shots fewer to score three goals more, and it’s increasingly clear that this is a side who are bereft of any self-belief, and who need to rediscover their mojo as soon as possible.
