Exclusive: ‘Bizarre’ – Bruce outlines ‘huge worry’ for Gerrard after Rangers loss v Hamilton

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has admitted that he is baffled by Rangers’ “bizarre” slump in form after another defeat to Hamilton on Wednesday evening.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender claimed that the Gers’ dire run will be a “huge worry” for manager Steven Gerrard.

As reported by Football Insider, it is understood that the board at Ibrox have no intention of sacking the ex-Liverpool legend, despite the post-New Year collapse that has rocked the club.

And Bruce is of the opinion that the Gers are doing the right thing by giving the boss time to turn things around.

“Rangers have got beat at home by Hamilton – it’s just bizarre what’s happening there,” he told Ibrox News.

“I can’t quite put my finger on it, to be honest. I don’t know whether it’s just been a really draining time for them in terms of fixtures, confidence. Since the game against Celtic when they put in a really good performance, really good result, they haven’t turned out a performance since, apart from in the Europa League.

“It’ll be a huge worry for Stevie, I’m sure, but one thing’s guaranteed in football, when you go into management, you’ve got to take the rough times with the smooth.

“Unfortunately, at the minute, it’s a bit of a bump in the road for him and it’s really going to test him, how he comes out the other side. I’m sure he will eventually because he’s got the character to do it.

“I just hope people are patient with him, let him make mistakes, and give him chance to sort the problems out because I think he is a good fit for Rangers and it’d be a huge loss if they lose him.”

Tempers have understandably begun to flair amongst some supporters as the Gers continue to struggle in domestic competition.

Gerrard’s men now find themselves 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, and were dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Hearts on Saturday evening.

Despite this, Gerrard has seemingly committed himself to the Light Blues with a series of resolute comments on his intentions to keep striving for improvement in Glasgow.
