‘Wow’ – These Rangers fans left dumbstruck by ‘disgrace’ of a player v Hamilton
Rangers fans have taken to social media to savage Connor Goldson for his performance against Hamilton on Wednesday night.
The centre-back was largely culpable for visitor’s winner in a miserable 1-0 defeat at Ibrox, and it’s safe to say that patience has well and truly ran out where the defender is concerned.
It was his needless error on the edge of his own box that led to Hamilton winning possession in the build up to their crucial strike, and as such, it is largely he who can be blamed for the Gers failing to capitalise on Celtic dropping two points against Livingston.
Of course, there were other factors too, and in no way, shape, or form was this a Rangers performance that anybody associated with the club should be proud of, but if you’re looking for a smoking gun on why Hamilton were able to take all three points here, Goldson is holding it.
And as if that isn’t bad enough, when James Tavernier – who also had a night to forget, by the way – went off injured, he handed the captain’s armband to his defensive colleague.
Now, Goldson may be the vice captain of the club, but when he’s messing things up so badly, drawing so much ire from supporters, and especially when the likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis are on the pitch, giving him the captaincy felt like an out of touch misstep.
And that’s a big problem, because with each passing shocker, this Rangers side seem to be drifting further and further away from the team that the Ibrox faithful thought they were capable of being.
It’s absolutely galling to watch this inexplicable collapse, and Goldson has shown that he is very a much a part of the problem.
