‘Where has it been?’ – Ferguson irked by one thing he saw in Rangers win v Braga

Ex-Rangers man Derek Ferguson has admitted that he has been left irked by his former club’s Europa League run.

The Gers booked their place in the last 16 of the competition with a 4-2 aggregate victory over SC Braga in midweek.

Contrastingly, Steven Gerrard’s men have struggled for form in domestic competition of late, and have fall 12 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership after being just two adrift going into the winter break.

And Ferguson believes that the disparity has been caused by a failure to prioritise the title race on home soil over continental exploits.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, as per the Scottish Sun, he said: “It was a terrific performance [against Braga], but I’ve just got something in the back of my mind that irks me a little bit about that performance. Because where has it been?

“Is it just because they’re just excited it’s Europe, it’s a little bit different, a little more glamorous.

“Well for the fans it’s about the league.”

Does Ferguson have a point?

Things are never as black and white as the pundit is painting them out to be here.

Of course, from a supporter’s perspective, it is absolutely baffling to see Gerrard’s men go out and struggle against the likes of Hearts and St. Johnstone before putting Braga to the sword like they did.

But to suggest that it’s a result of a lack of effort seems a little bit presumptuous.

Neither Ferguson, or any of us, really have a clue as to what’s going on behind closed doors, but you can bet your bottom dollar that the importance of preventing the dreaded nine-in-a-row has been iterated and reiterated until the boss was blue in the face.

Everybody knows how much a league title would mean to the Gers, and surely nobody more than the players’ themselves.
