‘Football gods truly hate us’ – These Rangers fans react to ‘nightmare’ blow v Hearts

Rangers fans had a lot to contend with during their Scottish Cup clash against Hearts on Saturday evening.

While the 1-0 defeat will have been another kick in the teeth for a side who are struggling for consistency, the unexpected omission of Alfredo Morelos from Steven Gerrard’s match day squad will have put an extra dampener on things for a lot of supporters.

As if that thunderbolt wasn’t enough, however, the Gers were also unfortunate enough to lose Scott Arfield to injury during the first half.

The Canada international had to leave the action with an apparent hamstring complaint, and it’s fair to say that many fans were left more than a little concerned by the sight.

It’s not hard to see why either.

Arfield has been in magnificent form of late, a rare bright spark in an otherwise gloomy spell for the Gers.

Not only been scoring goals, but he’s been doing it in style, and his all-round play hasn’t been too shabby either.

So far this term he has averaged a pass completion rate in excess of 80%, as well as an average of 61.95 successful actions per game, as per Wyscout.

Those are impressive numbers that illustrate a player who is both efficient on the ball and vital to the Gers’ way of playing.

In the context of yet another disappointing result, his injury could well be reduced to a bit of a footnote, but make no mistake, this could be a massive blow for Steven Gerrard.
