‘Huge’ – Kenny Miller makes ‘absolutely crucial’ Rangers silverware claim

Kenny Miller has claimed that Rangers would rather win the Scottish Premiership title than lift the Europa League this season.

The Gers booked their place in the last 16 of the continental competition with an impressive 1-0 win over SC Braga on Wednesday evening, ensuring a 4-2 aggregate victory overall.

But former Ibrox hero Miller is of the opinion that domestic glory still remains the top priority for the blue half of Glasgow.

Speaking to talkSPORT, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “I think everybody would know the answer to that.

“There’s no doubt the domestic scene is the bread and butter. It’s what means everything to Rangers and Celtic. The league is absolutely crucial when you start out at the start of the season.

“So there’s no doubt, if Rangers were to have the choice, you’d have the added bonus of obviously stopping nine in a row, but it would be winning that league back as well.”

He added: “Listen, Europe is a huge, huge benefit. It gives the fans a little distraction, it gives the players a little distraction from the domestic scene which is always so intense with that rivalry.

Is Miller right about this one?
Ultimately, it is a matter of opinion, but you can definitely understand where he’s coming from here.
The Gers are aching for a league title, and as that dreaded 10-in-a-row for Celtic looms large at the end of next season, they are running out of time to prevent it happening.
Make no mistake, winning the Europa League would be a monumental achievement, and would go down in history as one of the club’s greatest ever feats, but a Scottish Premiership would really reassert the Gers’ status as genuine big hitters in Scotland.
Of course, traditionally, they have always been that, and a few years in the wilderness doesn’t negate their past greatness, but bringing a title back to Ibrox would confirm that they are, once again, at the peak of their powers.
