‘Extremely close’ – Gerrard hints at start for rarely seen Rangers ace v Braga

Steven Gerrard has hinted that Florian Kamberi could make his first start for Rangers on Thursday evening.

The Hibernian loanee has made three Scottish Premiership appearances for the Gers since arriving in Glasgow, but has yet to find the back of the net for his new club.

Despite his lack of success in front of goal, however, Gerrard has been impressed with his impact at Ibrox, and suggested that the 24-year-old is knocking on the door of the starting XI.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, the boss said: “He’s extremely close [to a start].

“When you get indifferent performances in terms of the group and certain individuals and as a manager you get a player who’s maybe waiting and pushing for an opportunity, obviously the chances increase.

Should Kamberi start against Braga?
It would be a turn up for the books if he did, that’s for sure.
There’s no doubting that he’s starting to pick up the pace a little at Ibrox, and he looked improved against Livingston on Sunday, but you would assume that starting him would mean displacing Alfredo Morelos or Ryan Kent.
Would Gerrard be willing to do that in a match of this significance, especially when Kamberi is yet to start a game for the Light Blues? Perhaps not, even if some might think it’s the right thing to do.
His chance will come, but on Thursday night he might have to settle for a spot on the bench again.
