Confirmed – Rangers land midfield starlet, PL giants reportedly keen
Rangers have confirmed the signing of teenage midfielder Malcolm Ebiowei.
The club made the announcement via their official academy Twitter account on Thursday.
The 16-year-old was a highly-rated member of Arsenal’s youth setup, but left the Gunners late last year.
Since then he has been the subject of widespread interest from a number of top clubs, with Manchester United, Manchester City, and Everton all linked with a move for him, as per All Nigeria Soccer.
Ebiowei has represented both England and the Netherlands at youth international level, as well as training with Nigeria, with one report suggesting that his participation in a training camp for the Super Eagles was at the root of his exit in north London.
Is this a good deal for the Gers?
On the face of it, it certainly looks like one.
The youngster is a precocious talent, and one who, if some reports are to be believed, has been attracting attention from some of the top clubs in England.
Landing him is, therefore, something of a coup, although it isn’t without its questions.
Most notably, why did Arsenal let him go in the first place, and why were the clubs that supposedly had their eyes on him not compelled to make more of an effort to snap him up?
Maybe that’s cynical thinking, but you just hope that there isn’t some kind of underlying issue that ultimately derails a very exciting young prospect.
