Ask pretty much any Rangers fan about Alfredo Morelos’ future, and they will likely tell you that losing him would be akin to losing a limb.
The Colombian has established himself as the most dangerous striker in Scotland since arriving at Ibrox in 2017, and it’s little wonder that he is seen as such a precious asset when he has hit a goal every 97 minutes for the Gers so far this term.
It’s also no real surprise that he has attracted such interest from further afield too.
As per Football Insider, Morelos was a £25 million target for Inter Milan last month, with Tottenham Hotspur also said to be keen on him.
Thankfully, he hasn’t gone anywhere, of course, but it wouldn’t be a shock to see him at the centre of another saga of rumours by the time the summer window rolls around.
Perhaps some comfort should be taken from Dave King’s previous assertion that the Gers would reject an offer as high as £40 million for their star man, as per the Scottish Sun, but it would no doubt be a massive temptation for the club if a bid if that value was actually tabled.
One thing is for certain though, and that is that Transfermarkt’s new valuation of the player is borderline insulting.
The reliable database, a valued tool throughout the footballing community, claims that Morelos is currently worth just £13.5 million.
While this may be a sizeable jump from his last valuation of £6.75 million, it is well, well wide of the mark.
If the Gers were to accept a bid of just over £13 million for a player who has 29 goals in 41 appearances this term, including 14 in 14 in the Europa League, not only would it be a kick to the teeth for supporters, but also set a worrying precedent for the valuation of top tier talent north of the border.
