Charlie Nicholas predicts Rangers v Braga, outlines ‘big issue’ facing Gerrard

Charlie Nicholas has predicted that Rangers will pick up a win against SC Braga in their Europa League clash on Thursday night.

The Gers host the Portuguese at Ibrox in their Round of 32 First Leg tie having suffered something of a dip in form in recent weeks.

Dropped points against Hearts, Aberdeen, and Kilmarnock have seen the Bears slip 10 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, but Nicholas believes that they can rectify things somewhat with a win run midweek.

Rangers

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “Rangers have been disappointing to say the least since returning from the winter break.

“They got over the line against Livingston, but the big thing that is giving Steven Gerrard issues is the pitch. The storm means the grass will be a struggle to play on, so it will be an in-your-face traditional aggressive style of play that will be thrown at the Portuguese.

“Braga will handle this well, but these sides are always suspect when travelling away from home. They are tidy but you can rough them up.

“Alfredo Morelos has been quiet since coming back, not only in terms of goals but in relation to incidents and cards too. These are the types of games which Morelos will thrive in. ”

They beat Porto and have beaten better teams than this, so I expect them to go and win this.

“It will be a tense affair but a powerful and aggressive performance will ensure Rangers pick up the win.”

Will the Gers win this one?
If the lads perform to the level that we know they can, then there’s absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t.
The issue is that at the moment the Gers are not playing up to their full potential.
We’ve seen it numerous times since they returned from the winter break, and even in matches when they have come away victorious, such as in the 1-0 win over Livingston at the weekend, there have been times when the Light Blues have laboured and struggled.
In that match, for instance, they could muster just four shots on target, as per the BBC, and on another day could easily have dropped points again.
Will they be able to conjure up a more convincing showing against Braga?
We can but hope, because right now, the only certainty at Ibrox is uncertainty.
