Stephen Craigan has claimed that there is no chance of Rangers defender Connor Goldson getting dropped any time soon.
The 27-year-old has been an ever-present for Steven Gerrard’s men this season, playing every minute of every game in the Scottish Premiership so far.
And despite some shaky performances of late, including one that drew the ire of Alan Hutton in midweek, Craigan believes that the Englishman’s place in the starting XI is nailed on.
Speaking on Ladbrokes’ Social Club, he said: “It’s amazing the contrast, isn’t it?
“Some fans are saying that Goldson is struggling and some are saying he’s doing well and covering two jobs.
“Steven Gerrard has said that he trains every day, he’s very robust, he’s available every game, and he’s somebody he trusts – so he’s not getting dropped, first and foremost.”
Should Goldson keep his place?
He may not always be a fan favourite at Ibrox, but if we’re being completely honest, who else would take Goldson’s place at the moment?
Filip Helander is still sidelined, Nikola Katic looks to be back in the good books with his manager, and George Edmundson still has a lot to learn before he can be challenging for a starting role in every match.
So far this season, Goldson has won 6.21 aerial duels and made 3.83 clearances per game, as well as successfully winning 4.18 defensive duels per 90 minutes too, as per Wyscout.
In short, he may not always be the most popular, and he might have the odd questionable piece of play in his locker, but he is a commanding presence for the most part who is unlikely to be out of the side any time soon.
