‘Absolutely amazing’ – Alan Hutton reacts to ‘huge’ reported Rangers talks

Alan Hutton has suggested that Rangers could pull off a “huge” coup by agreeing a contract extension with Alfredo Morelos.

The Daily Record reported earlier in the week that the Gers have opened talks with the Colombian over the possibility of a new deal with improved terms.

And Hutton is a big fan of the idea.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Of course, it’s huge.

“He’s done absolutely amazing since he’s come. He’s scored a barrel-load of goals, he’s a top player.

“Yes, he gets too many bookings and red cards, and he plays on the line which is difficult because you’re ultimately going to miss him throughout the season because of stupidity. He was diving again last night [against Kilmarnock] and he could have been sent off again, but we know what he brings.

“He’s tough to handle, he gives defenders a nightmare, he scores goals.

“I think it works for both parties if I’m honest, because Rangers tying him down to a new deal means that if somebody comes in for him in the summer, the price goes up.

“For the player, he’ll be on a better contract and a better deal, so he’ll also be happy. I think it’s a win-win for player and club.”

How big would this be for Rangers?

Let’s not beat around the bush, tying Morelos down would be a massive coup for the Gers.

The South American is the most dangerous striker in Scotland, with a goal every 94 minutes this term, and the constant worry is that he could be on his way out of the club at the drop of a hat.

There was considerable interest from both Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur last month, as per Football Insider, and you would expect further speculation in the summer window too.

A new deal wouldn’t necessarily act as a complete deterrent for clubs looking to poach him from Ibrox, but it would at least guarantee that the Gers could go into negotiations in the strongest position possible.
