Barry Ferguson fires warning to Rangers manager Gerrard after January ‘lull’

Barry Ferguson has claimed that Steven Gerrard must win a trophy with Rangers this season.

The boss has yet to taste silverware in Glasgow, but is widely credited with improving the side that he inherited when he arrived at Ibrox.

But now Ferguson believes that it is time for him to make good on his promising signs.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, he said: “I think he’s got to win a trophy

“That would have been the mindset at the start of the season. There are three trophies to go for, I know the Europa League is always going to be difficult. But with the three main trophies, you need to try and win one of them.

“I’m sure he’ll be putting demands on himself and the players. I do think he is the right man for the job.

“There’s been a clear improvement since he’s came in from first season to this season.

“There has been a bit of a lull since they came back from the winter break, but they got that all important win against Hibs.

“Now, not just the manager, but the fans and players will be expecting him to kick on from here.”

Does Gerrard need to win a trophy this year?

I mean, who wouldn’t take some silverware if it was going begging?

The Gers look like a much stronger side with Gerrard at the helm, but sooner or later, they’re going to have to make good on this promise and turn it into a trophy.

To be fair to Gerrard, the first one is probably always the hardest, and if he could get his hands on a Scottish Cup or even a league title this season, then there’s no reason why he couldn’t kick on and make that kind of success a regular occurrence.

Will Gerrard’s job be on the line if he doesn’t win anything? Of course not.

But would it help matters greatly if he could pick up a title? Without a doubt.
