Rangers Opinion

Where would Rangers be without Alfredo Morelos?

It’s a terrifying prospect, and one that supporters will be hoping they don’t have to consider any time soon.

The Colombian has established himself as the most dangerous hitman in Scotland by a considerable distance since arriving at Ibrox in 2017, and his goals have been a key factor in transforming the Gers into title challengers once again.

So far this term he has hit 28 goals in all competitions for the Bears, and has averaged one strike every 88 minutes, as per Transfermarkt.

His influence goes beyond poaching though.

As per Wyscout, the South American has averaged five successful dribbles and has won 13.81 offensive duels per game for Rangers so far this term.

It’s little wonder that he is attracting interest from elsewhere, therefore, with  Football Insider reporting that Morelos was a late target for Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Thankfully, nothing came of that interest, and El Bufalo will be around to hopefully fire the Gers to a long-awaited league title during the second half of this season, but his latest comments on his personal ambitions could give some supporters anxiety about where is future lies in the long-term.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 23-year-old said:”If I have the opportunity to play in another league I will score goals there as well.

“I’m a player who likes to be in the box and I like to finish but right now I am just focused on scoring as many goals for the rest of the season and this project with Rangers.”

Nobody can doubt that Morelos is happy to be at Ibrox, and these comments would suggest that he is entirely committed to Steven Gerrard’s men for the time being.

But there is also a distinct hint that he doesn’t see himself staying in Glasgow forever.

Whether it be at the end of the season or even further down the line, Morelos’ comments will do little to alleviate fears that he will be on the move at some point in the future.

In other Rangers news, the striker reveals how many goals he thinks he can score for Rangers this term.
