‘Why not?’: Ex-int’l boss claims Rangers ‘battering ram’ would be ‘ideal’ for Euro supergiants
Barcelona should make a move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos to replace Luis Suarez, according to former Colombia boss Jorge Luis Pinto.
The 23-year-old Gers hitman has been in impressive form so far this season, hitting 28 goals in all competitions, but is currently serving a ban following his dismissal against Celtic at Parkhead in December.
Despite that, his compatriot, who led Costa Rica to the quarter finals of the World Cup in 2014 and is currently in the dugout at Millonarios in his homeland, believes that the Catalan giants should make an unexpected swoop.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “Alfredo Morelos would be the ideal striker to replace Luis Suarez for me.
“Why not? His performances in the last year certainly suggests that he could replace him. He has been a battering ram at Rangers.
“I’ve got huge admiration for what Alfredo has achieved so far in European football and he’s still young.”
Could Morelos cut it at Barcelona?
If any Barca officials are reading this then the answer is a resounding no – he’s useless, couldn’t hit a barn door with a shovel, keep on looking.
Joking aside though, we all know how lethal Morelos is.
He is, without a doubt, the most dangerous goalscorer in Scotland, and his strike rate of one goal every 84 minutes this season, as per Transfermarkt, is seriously impressive.
You can argue all you like about the relative quality levels in the Scottish and Spanish top flights, but the fact of the matter is that based on the evidence we have, Morelos scores goals at any level he plays at.
If you need further proof, just remember that he has 14 goals in 14 Europa League matches this season, and one in six at international level for Colombia.
That being said, is a move to Barca likely? Probably not.
Despite his impressive numbers, Morelos isn’t a big enough name to satisfy that fanbase, especially if they are looking to replace a colossus like Luis Suarez.
Could he earn a move to Camp Nou in the future though, perhaps after a spell in the Premier League?
It’s a terrifying thought, but with Football Insider claiming that Tottenham want him, it’s not impossible.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that.
