Confirmed – Rangers announce season-long loan exit for Ibrox starlet
Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas has joined Partick Thistle on loan until the end of the season.
The Gers made the announcement via their official Twitter on Monday evening.
The 20-year-old signed a contract extension at Ibrox at the end of October, but has failed to make any senior appearances for the Light Blues this term, and has been sent out with view to him gaining first team minutes in the Championship.
The midfielder, who turns 21 on Friday, has previously spent loan spells with Raith Rovers and English side Bury.
This is not the first time Rangers have done business with Partick Thistle during the current window, with striker Zak Rudden also making the move across Glasgow on a permanent deal last week.
Is this a good move for Barjonas?
It certainly feels like it is, and there’s a couple of reasons why.
Firstly, he needs minutes. For a player to be getting to 21 and registering no senior minutes in a campaign is a worry.
That’s not to say that Barjonas can’t cut it at the top level, but without that regular first team football under his belt, he’s in danger of falling behind in his development.
If that were to happen, there’s no saying he would ever make the ground up on his peers.
Secondly, the youngster can go out on loan safe in the knowledge that he has a long term deal to go back to at Rangers.
The extension he signed in October runs until 2021, and is a sure sign that the club do believe in his ability to develop into a really useful asset.
That will bring him confidence, and should help him relax into his new surroundings knowing that he isn’t having to go out every week and play for his future with his parent club.
