Confirmed: Rangers announce loan exit for Ibrox starlet

Rangers have confirmed that goalkeeper Aidan McAdams has joined Northern Irish side Portadown on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old stopper was understood to be undergoing a medical with the club yesterday, as per Football Insider.

And the Gers have now announced that he will be leaving Ibrox for the remainder of the campaign, as per their personal Twitter account.

McAdams spent the first half of the campaign on loan at League Two side Edinburgh City, with the Gers deciding that they are able to cope without him for the rest of the season.

As well as senior duo Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham, Steven Gerrard has also got Andy Firth in the first-team squad, while Kieran Wright, Robby McCrorie, Brian Kinnear all feature between the sticks for the development and age-group sides.

Is this a good move for McAdams?

Absolutely, yes.

The young stopper might as well be out there learning his trade as opposed to languishing away in the reserves.

In that respect, goalkeepers have it tougher than any of their outfield counterparts.

You can only have one man between the sticks at any one time, and it means that a lot of them end up twiddling their thumbs for large spells of the season.

This way, McAdams will go out and continue his development at a side where he’s sure to see plenty of action.

The club are currently rooted to the bottom of the Northern Irish Championship having conceded 66 goals already this term, so if nothing else, McAdams will be a busy lad.
