Confirmed – Gerrard reveals that rarely seen Rangers ace will start v Stranraer
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed that George Edmundson will definitely be starting against Stranraer on Friday night.
The Gers face the League One strugglers, who are seven points adrift at the foot of the third tier, in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup at Ibrox.
Prior to that game, the Gers boss held a press conference on Thursday afternoon, to which he was accompanied by Edmundson.
During the Q&A, a reporter began to ask the defender: “George, I don’t know if we should read into the fact that you’re sat here before all of us…”
Gerrard then butted in to say: “He’s starting against Stranraer”.
This sparked laughter in room from both the player and journalists, as shown in a video shared to the Bears’ official Twitter account.
How will Edmundson fare against Stranraer?
With the greatest of respect to the League One side, you would hope that anybody in Rangers’ squad would be capable of coming in and doing a fine job against them.
That being said, even if we take the opposition out of the equation for a moment, Edmundson should do very well.
He may only have seven senior appearances to his name this term, but there’s plenty to suggest that he has what it takes to cut it for the first team.
So far this season, he has averaged 8.03 aerial duels won, 5.75 interceptions, and 4.6 clearances per 90 minutes for the Bears, as per Wyscout.
Those are very decent numbers, especially for a 22-year-old still finding his feet in the Scottish game, and the hope will be that he can further illustrate just what he can do on Friday evening.
