Report – Euro giants set to ‘dig deep’ in bid to land Rangers mainstay

Roma are willing to “dig deep” to test Rangers resolve to hang on to Borna Barisic this month, according to the Sunday Post.

The Croatian is understood to be one of a three man shortlist for the Italian giants, who are also looking at Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj and Bordeaux’s Youssouf Sabaly.

But Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard has claimed that the Gers will do everything in their power to resist any bids for Barisic this month.

According to the Sunday Post, however, Roma could have “money to burn” on the player.

The report suggests that Hysaj has recently been valued at around £40 million, while Sabaly would set the Serie A club back around £12 million.

With that in mind, Rangers may be faced with a very sizeable bid for a player who cost them just £1.5 million when he signed from NK Osijek back in August 2018.

Will Rangers hang on to Barisic?

Obviously, nobody wants to see the Croatian leave.

Barisic has really hit his stride in Scotland this season, and has played the same amount of games already as he did throughout the entirety of last term, but already has 13 assists compared to last year’s seven, as per Transfermarkt.

That being said, if Roma get the bit between their teeth and are serious about this interest, then there’s no reason why they won’t push Rangers all the way.

At the end of the day, even if they offer £10 million, hypothetically speaking, then they would still be landing a new left-back on the relative cheap for a club with their financial capabilities, and the Gers would be making a ridiculously large profit on a player they only signed 18 months ago.

It’s easy to say that he isn’t going anywhere, but when faced with the reality of an exorbitant bid, the club could well crumble.
