Gerrard delivers injury update on Rangers ace, 26y/o still ‘way off’ a return
Rangers summer signing Filip Helander continues to struggle in his rehabilitation from injury.
The Swede colossus was spotted in Dubai for the winter break recently, but was not involved in the friendly as his wait for football continues at Ibrox.
He might have been present on the trip but was still in his protective boot – a sign that he only went to work with the club’s physios.
Steven Gerrard has recently commented on the immediate future of Helander, and it wasn’t a positive update on the 26-year-old.
“He’s a couple of weeks from coming out of the boot and then we can start progressing the rehab, so he’s still a way off,” he told the Daily Record.
That is no surprise given that he is still in the protective boot. The Swede won’t have been doing any physical activity on that foot and will need time to get back to full fitness as well as getting match practise before returning.
Helander would face an uphill battle to return to the starting line up upon his return. Nikola Katic has been superb in his absence, scoring a couple of goals.
The Croatian also earned hero status recently, being involved in the 2-1 victory over Celtic and managing the winning goal with a thumping header.
Many Rangers fans would be happy to see Katic continue to partner Connor Goldson in the heart of defence after the winter break.
