‘It’s time’ – Alan Hutton urges Rangers to snap up 29y/o danger man
Rangers some unlikely to stretch themselves too far in the transfer window this month.
The Gers have set away on something of a clear out in recent days, getting rid of Serge Atakayi, Eros Grezda, and Andy King.
And according to manager Steven Gerrard, there could be more to follow too.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the boss claimed that three or four more players could end up leaving Ibrox in the coming weeks, potentially paving the way for one new arrival.
And while there are no clear indications of who that player could be, Alan Hutton believes that the Gers should make a move for Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor.
The 29-year-old’s contract talks with the Addicks have collapsed in recent days, as per London News Online.
That could make Taylor available for a move this month, and Hutton thinks that the Gers should capitalise.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Well, I think it’s time. He’s said no to the contract so in his mind, he is looking for a new team, but there will be a lot of people after him.
“He’s a good player, he’s done really well for them, so I can’t imagine Rangers are the only ones in for him, so they’re going to have to act quickly.
“We’ll obviously see in the coming weeks, we don’t know what will happen with Morelos in the future, possibly a summer move.
“So he’ll be looking to get someone in and get them into the way Rangers think and the way Gerrard wants them to play.
“So I rate him as a player, he’s a good player, so he could be a good fit for Rangers.”
You could argue that the Bears don’t need any other strikers, given the impressive form of both Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe, but goals win games, and they will never, ever come in wrong.
Taylor has hit seven goals in 13 Championship appearances so far this season, as per Whoscored, as well as averaging 2.6 shots per 90 minutes for Charlton.
He is a danger man, pure and simple, and if he is available at the right price, and if he is keen on making the move to Glasgow, then snapping him up is an absolute no-brainer, surely.
