‘Hello sweet prince’ – These Rangers fans react to ‘superb’ official tweet
Few Rangers players have ever created the same kind of hype and personal legend in such a short space of time as Alfredo Morelos has.
The Colombian hitman has only been a Ger since the summer of 2017, but his superhuman exploits in front of goal and his tendency to get himself in trouble have made him into a figure of adoration at Ibrox, like a messianic outlaw from days of yore.
His latest brush with authority saw him dismissed for a late dive against Celtic in the Old Firm at the end of December, and while it was a needless and quite infuriating way to see red, it was classic Morelos.
Since then he has been back in his home country doing charity work, but he caught up with the rest of the Rangers squad on their warm weather training trip to Dubai earlier on Thursday, as per the club’s official Twitter account.
The Gers face Lokomotiv Tashkent this weekend in a friendly, and while it matters little as to what the final score is, it’s always a bonus to have Morelos in and around the squad for any match, even if it’s purely for entertainment value.
The only concern with the Colombian is that you have to wonder how much longer he can continue to tear up the Scottish game before somebody comes calling for him.
Already he has been linked with moves to the Premier League in the summer, as per Football Insider, and with a strike rate of one goal every 84 minutes this season, as per Transfermarkt, it’s easy to see why.
For now though, we can just be thankful that he pulls on that Light Blue shirt every week – when he’s not suspended – because it is a rarity and a treat to have such an all-conquering talent at Ibrox.
