‘I must admit…’ – Alan Hutton drools over ‘outstanding’ Rangers ace who used to be ‘edgy’
If Rangers are to win the Scottish Premiership this season, they are going to need leaders.
Talent is one thing, and it’s becoming increasingly evident that the Gers have plenty of that, but without the bottle to implement it, a side is always going to fall short.
With the likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis offering their vast experience, and with the ever impressive James Tavernier wearing the armband, Steven Gerrard’s men have plenty of role models to be looking up to.
But one man who has stepped up in recent times and really proven his worth as a key presence on the pitch is Connor Goldson.
And that’s the opinion of ex-Ibrox defender and lifelong Rangers fan Alan Hutton.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I must admit, they’ve had moments throughout the season where it’s been a little bit edgy with himself.
“I think overall he’s done very well, against Celtic I think he was outstanding. It was a massive test for him to play against Odsonne Edouard who, as we know, is a magnificent player.
“Especially at Parkhead, where the fans are on you, it can be a real difficult place to play, so I thought he was outstanding, he really lead from the back.”
There were many impressive displays at Parkhead at the end of December, but Hutton is right to pick out Goldson a a shining light.
The 27-year-old was imperious at the back that day, and it felt like a far cry from the days when he was being subjected to widespread criticism from the likes of Neil McCann and Willie Miller.
Now, however, he is performing at such a level whereby he is picking up praise from the likes of Hutton, as well as being openly named as a role model by teammates such as George Edmundson, as per The Scotsman.
Credit where credit’s due, the centre-back has really picked his game up this term.
