Ross Wilson issues strong message on Rangers’ January transfer goals

Rangers are in exactly the kind of commanding position in the title race that they could have only dreamed of at the beginning of the season.

Just two points behind bitter rivals Celtic, they also have a crucial game in hand and benefited from a high surge in momentum when they beat the Hoops at Parkhead just before the winter break began.

From a transfer perspective, however, that puts them in an interesting position this month.

Do they stick with what they’ve got in the belief that they can outlast the Bhoys in the race for the top spot, or do they twist in the hope that they can find the missing ingredient needed to blow their neighbours out of the water?

It’s an interesting question, and also one that sporting director Ross Wilson has seemingly gone a long way towards answering.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “It’s not as easy as flicking a switch because it’s the January transfer window and it’s always difficult.

“Reducing the squad is our main aim.

Putting the emphasis on outgoings could prove to be a very smart move from the Gers.
After all, this time last season they decided to bring in Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe, putting both straight into the first team, and, according to Barry Ferguson at least, as per the Daily Record, disrupting a lot of their early season momentum.
Obviously, both of those signings have worked out well in the long run, but if it isn’t broken, don’t try and fix it, and this season, the Gers look to be running about as smooth as you could ever possibly want them.
