Report – Rangers flop offloaded on permanent deal, key clause inserted
Rangers have wasted no time in getting down to business in the transfer market this month, even if the bulk of their activity so far has been offloading players.
Young forward Serge Atakayi was sold to Finnish side SJK early in the window, and the club have followed that up with another exit on Monday morning.
According to the Scottish Sun, Albanian winger Eros Grezda is the latest player to be shown the exit door at Ibrox.
The wide man failed to make an impact for the Gers since joining in a £2 million deal from Croatian side NK Osijek, and has failed to play any part for Steven Gerrard’s men this season after being categorically told that he had no future at the club.
The report states that the 24-year-old has now returned to Osijek on a permanent deal.
It is also understood that the Gers have inserted a sell-on clause into his contract so that they will receive a proportion of any profits made from future transfers.
All in all, this looks like a fantastic bit of business from the Bears.
Grezda still had two-and-a-half years left on his deal at Ibrox, but it was as plain as the nose on your face that he’d played his last game in a Light Blue shirt.
With that in mind, the sooner he could be moved on the better, and the only regret from the club’s standpoint will be that they were unable to get him off the books in the summer.
Inserting a sell-on clause also seems like a good move though, and that kind of shrewd negotiating could end up paying off in the long run.
Money is money at the end of the day, and a nice little wedge further down the line will never come in wrong.
