Report – English PL club enter fray in Jan hunt for Rangers favourite

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was always bound to attract attention this January.

After all the Colombian has hit 28 strikes already this season, and we’re only at the halfway point up in Scotland.

With goals proving to be a vital commodity for any side looking to avoid the drop in the English top flight, it’s unsurprising that there are rumours abound about a whole host of bids to lure him south of the border this month.

According to Football Insider, Everton are keen on the South American, although a report from the Daily Record also details how links with Aston Villa refuse to die down either.

And one new name that has entered the fray is that of Newcastle United.

According to the Daily Star, the Toon Army have identified Morelos as a potential to their own striking woes after an underwhelming start to the season from record signing Joelinton.

The report states that manager Steve Bruce has yet to receive any encouragement with regards to capturing Morelos, as well as claiming that the Magpies have an active interest in Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen.

Naturally, from a Gers perspective, the last thing we want is any interest in Morelos at all.

El Bufalo is a goal machine, and his strike rate of one every 84 minutes, as per Transfermarkt, is bordering on superhuman.

That being said, how likely are Newcastle to make a serious bid for him?

The Toon Army don’t part with cash too readily if Mike Ashley can help it, and after forking out £40 million for Joelinton over the summer, it’s hard to see the controversial owner going big on another centre-forward any time soon.

As long as the board at Ibrox hold their ground and demand the kind of exorbitant fee that they have claimed they would in the past, as per the Scottish Sun, then this one shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
