Report – Rangers loanee set for early Ibrox return after suffering injury blow
Rangers have shown already this January that they are not afraid to make fairy ruthless decisions in the transfer market.
The Gers have already recalled Glenn Middleton from Hibernian due to a lack of game time in the capital, and have offloaded young Finnish forward Serge Atakayi.
Don’t be surprised to see more outgoings of that ilk this month either.
According to a report from The Athletic, the Gers could end up moving on a variety of players in the coming weeks, as they look to trim down their squad for the second half of the season.
One slight unexpected incoming, however, could be the return of young loanee Josh McPake.
The teenage wide man has been out on loan at Scottish Championship side Dundee this season, but has returned to Auchenhowie to undergo rehab after picking up an injury in the second tier.
And according to a report from Football Insider, he will not be going back to Dens Park, with his parent club instead opting to keep a watchful eye on him as he continues his recovery.
McPake was due to return to the Gers at the end of the month anyway, so this doesn’t seem like too much of a massive deal, but it’s certainly the right decision from Rangers.
An injury to any loaned out player is a blow, of course, but an injury to such a young talent isn’t something that should be gambled with, and for the sake of a few weeks, it makes way more sense to get him back to Glasgow so that he can undergo his rehabilitation with his parent club.
The extent of his ankle complaint is not fully known, but at least he’s in the best place possible now.
