Jackie McNamara urges Rangers to let in-demand ace to leave on loan in Jan
Despite the fact that they won’t be playing for the first half of it, January promises to be a big month for Rangers’ title challenge.
The Gers head to Dubai next week for a spot of warm weather training, and will make their comeback in the domestic game with a Scottish Cup clash against Stranraer on the 17th.
But even prior to that, the club could face some major decisions with serious ramifications for the rest of their campaign in the transfer market.
While incomings are likely to relatively sparse, there could be a lot more in the way of players leaving Ibrox, and one name that is already being touted for a potential exit is that of Jordan Jones.
According to the Daily Mail, both Stoke City and Middlesbrough are interested in signing the 25-year-old this month, and Jackie McNamara things it could prove to be a smart idea for the Gers to let him go out on loan.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think he’ll need to play.
“He obviously picked up that injury in the Old Firm game and got sent-off.
“It was a big step up from Kilmarnock to Rangers, but again playing games is exactly what he needs right now.”
As alluded to by the pundit, Jones has been out of the side since picking up a ligament injury in a wild challenge that saw him sent off in the first Old Firm of the season at the beginning of September.
Since then, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo have really nailed down their places at the top of the pecking order at Ibrox, and while you could argue that Jones hasn’t had a chance to prove himself after only arriving at the club from Kilmarnock over the summer, the fact of the matter is that he would be much better off going out and playing football instead of languishing on the bench for the rest of the campaign.
