Report – Rangers open talks over permanent Ibrox exit for 31y/o flop

Rangers have a plethora of top quality striking options available to them at the moment.

In Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe, they arguably have the two most consistently threatening frontmen in the Scottish Premiership at the moment, and even Greg Stewart has shown that he can offer something a little bit different up top when called upon.

As such, making an impact at Ibrox has never been harder for centre-forwards, and that is being reflected in the Gers’ transfer activities.

Already this window we have seen young Serge Atakayi return to Finland after struggling to impress Steven Gerrard, and it looks as if he might not be the last hitman to head for the exit door this month either.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Eduardo Herrera could also been on his way out of the club.

The 31-year-old has been on loan at Mexican side Necaxa for the past year, but that deal has now expired, and he still has six months left to run on his contract at Ibrox.

It is understood that Gerrard has made it very clear that he has no chance of playing his way into the boss’ plans in Glasgow, and as such, the article suggests that the Gers are in talks with Mexican strugglers Atletico San Luis over the possibility of taking over his contract.

That would be a very astute move from the Bears if it happens.

Herrera has really struggled to make any kind of meaningful impact in Scotland, making just 19 league appearances – including 17 from the bench – and scoring just one goal.

He’s not getting any younger, and it’s blatantly evident that he doesn’t have a future with Rangers.

Move him on and get him off the wage bill as soon as possible.
