Report – English duo plot January loan raid for Rangers first teamer

Steven Gerrard has built a Rangers squad where the emphasis is very much on attacking talent.

This season, as an example, he has a plethora of wingers to choose from at Ibrox.

With Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo looking like his go-to men for the foreseeable future, the boss also has Brandon Barker, Sheyi Ojo, Jamie Murphy, and Jordan Jones to turn to if needed – not to mention loanees Glenn Middleton and Jake Hastie.

But according to a report from the Daily Mail, one of those players could be on his way out of Ibrox this January.

The article claims that English Championship sides Stoke City and Middlesbrough have been eyeing up Jones for a possible loan swoop next month, with both sides looking to beat the drop to League One.

For his part, Jones has struggled to make any kind of impact since arriving from Kilmarnock over the summer.

The 25-year-old featured in the Gers’ first four games in the Scottish Premiership this season, but picked up a knee ligament injury in a wild challenge that saw him sent off in the Old Firm back at the start of September.

He is back to fitness now, but has yet to force his way back into Gerrard’s plans, and was left out of the match day squad entirely for the 2-1 win over Celtic on Sunday.

With that in mind, it’s hard to see how he can hope to play his way back into the good books anytime soon.

He didn’t show enough prior to his injury to make him indispensable, and now he finds himself way down the pecking order at Ibrox.

Perhaps a loan away would be the best solution for both him and the club, and could give him a chance to get his career back on track.
