Sir Kenny Dalglish claims ‘broken’ Rangers ace could be key v Celtic

Rangers know that this afternoon will not be easy.

The Gers travel to Parkhead fully aware of the implications facing them in a clash that could come to define their season.

If they can take all three points against Celtic then the gap at the top of the table will be just two points with a game in hand.

Lose, however, and that gap will be eight points going into the winter break.

With so much riding on the game, it’s only natural that attention is being focussed on the players who can make a difference at both ends of the pitch, and nobody has been more influential for Rangers this season than Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian has hit 28 goals already this season, and according to Sir Kenny Dalglish, he could be key in this match.

Writing in an article for the Sunday Post, he said: “One of the sub-plots is the Alfredo Morelos versus Fraser Forster battle.

“The big Celtic keeper had the game of his life in the Cup Final at Hampden, and left Morelos a broken man.

“But the Colombian has recovered quickly and scored in every game he has played in since then.”

Claiming that Morelos was left “broken” after that cup final seems a bit excessive, especially considering how well he has performed since, but certainly he will be fully aware of the fact that he has yet to find the back of the net against the Hoops.

Today would be as good a time as any to break that duck, and if he can help his side to within touching distance of the summit of the table, even better.

Morelos has averaged a goal every 80 minutes, as per Transfermarkt, and keeping that form going could prove to be vital to the Gers’ chances.
